Actuarial Programmer II
Purpose
The Actuarial Programmer II will provide technical support for the Actuarial Services team and is responsible for owning processes within the loss cost development data pipeline and preparation of analysis-ready datasets. This individual will be challenged to apply their expertise in actuarial analysis and programming skills to derive insights and knowledge.

Responsibilities
- Provide ownership of scripts that stage statistical data for loss cost development analyses (SQL, SAS).
- Provide ownership of rating scripts that follow AAIS program rating manuals (SQL, SAS) across all jurisdictions.
- Provide ownership of ETL scripts for catastrophe modeling results.
- Develop testing protocols and provide quality assurance checks.
- Validate rating table content with program rating manuals.
- Communicate status of current projects within the Actuarial Services team and participate in demos for stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively to share insights and knowledge within the Actuarial Services team and other functional areas.
- Execute actuarial test plans and document results.
- Utilize new techniques and applicable analytic tools to improve and innovate ways of analyzing data.
- Participate in development of business recommendations and analysis of strategies.
- Abide by AAIS Actuarial Policies & Procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of actuarial insurance data, statistical plans, and rating algorithms.
- Ability to implement and maintain rating scripts based on filed rating manuals across AAIS programs and jurisdictions.
- Strong intellectual curiosity to continually advance actuarial knowledge and skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with clarity and effectiveness across the business.
- Multi-faceted problem-solving abilities. Comfortable with learning and using new data procedures, techniques, and analytic tools.

- Ability to learn additional tools that aid actuarial data work (e.g., SQL, SAS, RStudio, Python, catastrophe modeling, etc.).

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Math, Computer Science, Actuary, or another data engineering-related discipline. Combination of relevant experience also considered.
- 3+ years property casualty insurance industry experience in an analytic or statistical capacity, or a Master’s degree in an analytic field.
- Strong technical skills in Excel.
- Proficiency in SQL.
- Proficiency in SAS, VBA, or other database management languages strongly preferred.
- Experience working with predictive modeling datasets is advantageous.
- Minimum travel is required for annual all-company gatherings or team design sessions (up to 5% of the time).
