Dr. Matt Hinds-Aldrich is the Senior Risk Strategy Lead at AAIS. He leads national initiatives to improve how fire departments collect, analyze, and use data to enhance their operations and demonstrate value. At AAIS, he helps develop, expand, and promote the FLAMES (Fire Loss and Mitigation Evaluation Score) methodology, enabling insurers to assess local fire protection and mitigation efforts. Dr. Matt previously worked for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), leading the development of a new national fire data system; served as Senior Management Analyst for the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department; and was Assistant Professor and interim Fire Science Program Director at Anna Maria College. His Ph.D. research at the University of Kent (England) focused on firefighter occupational culture. He has extensively researched behavioral economics in public safety and firefighters arrested for setting fires. His work has been published internationally and presented at major conferences in the U.S. and Britain.
