Senior Product Development Specialist (Personal Lines)

Purpose

The Senior Product Development Specialist is responsible for full product lifecycle management of Personal Lines products. This position will manage the development of rating methodologies, premium determination, and various manual rules. They will also create contract language for forms and endorsements, track new and existing state exceptions impacting manual rules, forms, and endorsements, as well as other matters related to the usage of one or more AAIS Personal Lines manuals.

Responsibilities

This individual works under the highest authority levels to manage functions that support the agile development and lifecycle management of Personal Lines products in close collaboration with multiple departments and stakeholders internally and externally. They are a key member of the Personal Lines product management team and have responsibility for managing the development, implementation, maintenance, and retirement of AAIS Personal Lines products and programs. This individual serves as a company-wide technical expert in matters pertaining to Personal Lines rating procedures and manual rules, and as a key contact for vendors and policy administration platforms that support AAIS personal lines products including S2M and AAISdirect.

Key Partnerships

  • Works closely with Data and Actuarial Solutions teams to develop rating structures, rating procedures, and the processes required to generate, file, and otherwise maintain content of Personal Lines manuals.
  • Works closely with the Product Managers, Member Engagement team, and other internal customers on integrating manuals into technology platforms.
  • Partner with the Legal and Compliance team for initial research of laws, regulations, and settled court cases to develop the initial contract language of forms and endorsements. The initial draft, along with the legal research completed, is then provided to Legal for their review and finalization of the contract language. Both Product and Legal are jointly responsible for the final formatting of the forms and endorsements.

Job Duties

  • Conducting research and analysis on competitor products, market needs, and emerging issues to make recommendations for changes or additions to AAIS Personal Lines products.
  • Developing rating structures and procedures, manual rules and state exceptions, and related supporting information for products.
  • Addressing manual-related regulatory objections and taking ultimate responsibility for securing regulatory approval for AAIS Personal Lines manuals.
  • Development of filing and approval Bulletins, and responses to member inquiries.
  • Managing and keeping projects on track, including project-specific interactions with the Legal and Compliance team and/or other functional areas; and reporting on project status.
  • Working closely with the Legal team to review regulatory issues and determine the impact on the manuals and forms used with AAIS Personal Lines products.
  • Interacting with other AAIS departments with respect to:
    • product features and product development strategy;
    • shared initiatives and shared compliance issues; and
    • marketing and systems support needs.
  • Interacting with users of and prospects for AAIS Personal Lines products to communicate background information regarding manual features and updates.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for other Personal Lines staff and for members of other product teams. Provides both internal and external training on AAIS Personal Lines products’ content.
  • Supporting the goals of the Personal Lines Product Manager to promote and sell AAIS personal lines products. Activities can include on-site company visits, participation in industry conferences, web seminar presentations, web-based conference calls, and promotional/follow-up campaigns utilizing e-mail and phone calls.
  • Using project management tools and function in an agile work environment including the use of project management software.
  • The initial research of laws, regulations, and settled court cases to develop the initial contract language of forms and endorsements.
  • The finalization of Personal Lines forms and endorsements in conjunction with the Legal and Compliance team, including the final formatting of contract language.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of industry-standard personal lines programs of insurance, including coverage concepts, rating procedures, and underwriting philosophies.
  • Advanced product development and technical writing expertise including contract language for forms and endorsements development.
  • Superior attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • As a remote workforce especially important to be self-driven, able to self-organize, and prioritize.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Products including Word and Excel.
  • Proven experience in managing people and projects.
  • Use both written and verbal communication skills in a clear, effective, manner.
  • Skilled in making presentations to groups of all sizes.
  • Strong customer focus and customer service mentality.
  • Genuine curiosity and drive.
  • Some travel required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Mathematics, or Economics. MBA is a plus.
  • 7+ years of Personal Lines insurance industry experience. Experience in other lines of property casualty experience is a plus.
  • Experience with regulatory bodies is a plus.
  • Professional designations (CPCU, CPM, PMP, et al.), and advanced degrees preferred.
