Product Manager, Inland Marine
Purpose
The AAIS Product Manager is a strategic role, responsible for maximizing the value of an AAIS product suite, driving product management and development with a collaborative team. The Product Manager grows AAIS Membership and revenue by providing innovative P&C insurance solutions to the marketplace within their product line. The Product Manager has ownership of a suite of products and leads the strategic product lifecycle including the design, development, delivery, maintenance, and decommission. Product Managers work collaboratively across the organization and with outside partners to ensure their products meet or exceed Member expectations and are designed for ease of implementation and sustainability.
Responsibilities
Product Leadership
- Take ownership of relevant products and services. Create and maintain Product Roadmaps that align with AAIS strategic priorities and reflect vision and goals for the product for scope of coverage, product features, and program support, spanning 3-5 years.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop project plans and budgets to deliver on prioritized work efforts.
- Lead, develop, and mentor staff to ensure the team delivers superior Member service and meets project timelines and budgets.
- Represent AAIS and assigned lines of business as subject matter expert at industry forums, business meetings, events, and conferences as a subject matter expert in the line of business.
Build the Product
- Establish, document, and communicate product vision to staff responsible for creating forms, loss costs, and rules.
- Develop and deploy programs with support strategies that result in positive Member experiences due to their ease of deployment and use.
- Prioritize needs and work based upon the scope of the work, budget, and time.
- Manage the product development, quality assurance, compliance, regulatory oversight, and delivery.
- Ensure all products and service offerings comply with applicable insurance regulations, coordinating with legal and compliance teams to manage filings, updates, and approvals.
Market the Product
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and contact between stakeholders, teams, and cross-functional contributors to ensure alignment, consistent messaging, and buy-in on major decisions, strategic direction, clear guidance, and deliverables for developers.
- Ensure Member Engagement and Member Success teams are aware of key product features and updates and can effectively represent and market the product to Members and prospects.
- Actively participate in product marketing efforts and activities as a key resource.
Support the Product
- Lead Product Advisory Councils to gather and evaluate continuous feedback from Members to address coverage gaps or inefficiencies, ensuring the product delivers a continuous value stream, and remains competitive and relevant.
- Lead innovation efforts to modernize and improve related products and services, considering technology advancements and evolving risk factors.
- Work with internal and external partners to ensure that the product is properly represented and supported by technology providers.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven ability to develop, launch, and manage successful insurance products, with a focus on profitability, market fit, and risk management.
- Strong knowledge of Inland Marine insurance, with the ability to manage multiple related product lines.
- Strong understanding of new and emerging programs and technologies that can provide value to insurers beyond traditional core products and pricing methods.
- Strong understanding of P&C insurance business operations and finances, including profit and loss key indicators.
- Advanced knowledge of AAIS and competitor products and related insurer issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Analytical skills to interpret performance metrics and make data-driven decisions.
- Superior relationship management skills.
- Ability to travel for conferences, meetings with customers, regulators and Partners.
- Strong planning, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects at once.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively across multiple channels and asynchronously in a remote-first working environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Business, Risk Management, or related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
- 7 – 10 years of experience in the P&C insurance industry with a focus on Inland Marine product management, product development, underwriting, and project management.
- CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, AMIM (Associate Marine Insurance Management), CPM (Certified Product Manager) designations, preferred. Insurance related or product management course work desirable.
- Travel is required for annual all-company gatherings, team design sessions, and attendance at industry related events and conferences (up to 25% of the time).
