Advisory Councils

AAIS Product Advisory Councils connect a cross section of the P&C insurance ecosystem to provide strategic direction on AAIS initiatives and product roadmaps, provide a platform for participants to discuss emerging market issues, and ensure AAIS fulfills our role as a national not-for-profit advisory organization.

AAIS Product Managers welcome new Advisory Council Members to join on a rolling basis. Below is more information about the purpose of our Advisory Councils, how to join, and what you can expect from participating.

Who serves on AAIS Product Advisory Councils?

The AAIS Product Advisory Council may include both AAIS Members and non-members and may include noncarrier entities e.g., brokers, captives, reinsurers, and other supporting organizations. Ideally, we would like a mix of single state, regional, and national carriers to be represented.

What’s the purpose of AAIS Product Advisory Councils?

As a Member-focused, not-for-profit, insurance advisory organization, we rely on the expertise and insights of our Members and industry professionals to help guide our future plans. Council Members provide thought leadership that informs the direction we take on our products, services, and activities.

What’s the time commitment of AAIS Product Advisory Council Members?

Advisory Council meetings are typically held once per quarter (virtually). We ask that Advisory Council Members commit to joining for one year and to meeting virtually at least twice a year. To optimize the value of our meetings, we also request that all Council Members be an active participant in sharing thoughts and perspectives that can help inform AAIS initiatives and products.

What topics are discussed during AAIS Product Advisory Council meetings?

Advisory Council meetings provide Members with a closer view of current and future AAIS initiatives. They also give Council Members an opportunity to share ideas, raise concerns, ask questions, and provide feedback to guide AAIS’s product strategies and plans.

Topic examples include:

AAIS also has a Fire Advisory Council for our FLAMES initiative. FLAMES (Fire Loss and Mitigation Evaluation Score) is an innovative approach to rating modern public fire protection. Legacy public fire protection rating methodologies are based upon century-old assumptions that limit the ability of modern insurers to accurately select and price risk. FLAMES challenges those legacy assumptions and chips away at those persistent losses by turning the focus from counting response equipment to evaluating mitigation effectiveness. Contact the AAIS Risk Strategy Team for more information.
