The Critical Need for Data Standards in P&C Insurance
Data is the backbone of the property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry, driving risk assessment, pricing, innovation, and operational efficiency. Yet the lack of common data standards creates billions of dollars in annual costs for translation and reporting, slows collaboration with regulators, and delays the implementation of effective legislation. With thousands of insurers and dozens of regulatory bodies across the U.S., achieving consensus on data standards has been a persistent challenge—until now.
Introducing openIDS: A Community-Driven Solution
openIDS (Open Insurance Data Standards) is a community-driven initiative hosted by openIDL (Open Insurance Data Link) to develop an open-source data model architecture, enabling industry-wide adoption at no cost. By providing a standardized, accessible framework, openIDS helps insurers streamline data management, reduce duplication, and improve collaboration with regulators. As a not-for-profit advisory organization, AAIS is working across the P&C industry to develop more efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions that benefit all stakeholders, advancing innovation and ensuring a stronger, more connected insurance ecosystem.
Powered by the Linux Foundation and Industry Collaboration
As a Linux Foundation project, openIDL benefits from the leading technology organization dedicated to building sustainable ecosystems around open-source projects. Together, insurance carriers, regulators, and partners collaborate on openIDS to ensure data privacy and create positive change in the insurance community as a whole.
