Bruce was CEO of EMC Insurance Companies for 28 years before retiring in 2020. He has been a member of the EMC board of directors since 1984. Bruce was a member of the boards of directors of the Insurance Service Office, the National Council on Compensation Insurance, the Insurance Information Institute, and several other industry trade groups.  He has served on the AAIS board of directors since 2014 and became its chair in 2019.
